andrey golub :: echoes of microsoft: the is coming?
although the most ysts clearly understand there is nothing new in the "idea of microsoft",
- to integrate the functions of mole phones and email into a single system that enables people to contact to one another based on name rather than email or phone number.
and fiercevoip.com states it clearly today-
- there are other solutions that already have this sort of functionality going, so microsoft isn't bringing anything new to the party other than tying in microsoft products.
however we know microsoft is a mad power (read evil) in brain-programming, even if it's not able delivering free of bugs software, so try to imagine the that's coming if this will be realized by m$-
echoes is supposedly a services platform for telecom carriers that comnes microsoft live messenger along with syncing of people's address books and presence. the first phase roll out this summer would be a platform to sync contacts from messenger with a user's mole phone address book. users would basically get an overlay/map of messenger users to phone numbers and be able to sms text or voice call to synched contacts without having to type a number or email address.
oh my god! i'll immediatelly change my telco if it's selecting m$ as magic platform supplier ;)

2008 - the year of mole
“mole goes g in 2008″ …okay, so i’ve been hearing this sen for the last 10 years or so (and it’s making the rounds in the plethora of ‘08 blogosphere predictions). although, i don’t think ‘08 is going to be the breakout year, we are going to see a very interesting year in the mole space:
- the iphone was a g step in the direction of usality/beauty and will force nokia, microsoft, and rim to up the ante - i.e., we will see some cool new devices
- we will see some android phones in the wild and with that some innovate software and hardware
- location based services will begin to emerge (google’s “my locations” is brilliant… if i could get the darn thing to work) and yahoo’s fire eagle looks promising
- very interesting mole applications based around social software and location (that isn’t a pita to use) will emerge and engage consumers
- one of the g guys (probably google) will start to experit w/ mole payts which further entrenches mole devices in the hands of consumers
- live streaming video to/from mole devices will mature and create a killer opportunity (scoble is already messing around with qik and comvu has had this for windows mole for a while [thanx for that pointer andrew]) - i called this one way back in the olden days
- exposing and sharing data (docs, video, pos, etc) to your mole will see some interesting action - i created a very cool syndication platform a couple of years ago that i tabled and now is the time for something like this to go g time.  take a look at this to see what i am talking about - http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2007/12/run-vista-gadge.html
but, we won’t see the true mole revolution until the middle man (yeh, you know who) is out of the equation!

pressflip is a belly flop
pressflip is a new blog search engine (it’s actually a relaunch of a site called persai, which launched earlier this year). the idea is you do a search, train the engine by telling it which results aren’t interesting to you, and then wait for new results to in over time.
the search results aren’t very deep compared to established blog search engines, there’s no rss for the future search results that i can find and the training feature isn’t intuitive or explained clearly anywhere. pressflip is far from launch ready, and under normal cirstances we’d add a page on crunchbase for them and move on until it became interesting or went into the deadpool.
persai/pressflip has some notoriety because the founders, ted dziuba, matt kent and kyle shank, previously wrote a blog called uncov, which focused primarily on tearing apart startups and the entrepreneurs behind them. uncov has now been taken down, although a review is here) it was a blog that, while overly harsh at times, provided a good counterbalance to much of the sometimes overly positive coverage of startups. and, it was extremely funny.
but uncov was just a hobby for the pressflip founders as they raised small amounts of angel financing and worked away on their startup. perhaps the workload from pressflip became too much, or perhaps they realized that the startup they were building was turning into exactly the kind of thing that they would tear apart clinically on their blog, but they shut down uncov just a few days before persai first launched.
pressflip/uncov is a perfect ilration of the man in the arena quote from a 1910 theodore roosevelt speech given in paris. it’s awfully easy to criticize the work of others but incredibly difficult to build something unique yourself. the uncov guys are now in the arena, and failing. we’ll see if they have what it takes to take their hits and keep fighting.
