rumor smashed: activating iphone 3g will not brick your old iphone (and your mom can activate it from home)
there's a scary rumor more than a few readers have asked us about, that activating an iphone 3g would brick your old iphone. so here's the deal, straight from at&t. if you activate a new iphone 3g, your wireless number is obviously ported to it. but can totally give it to your cousin in the boonies where's the no 3g to use as a phone?they just hook it up to their computer, sync it and setup a plan through itunes just like you did when you brought it home for the very first time. no trips to the at&t store required. sweet, eh? if you're greedy and want to hang on to it, then it'll basically be an ipod touch?it'll do everything it used to, sans go on at&t's network. man claims to have bought ps3's mgs4 bundle from wal-mart way early
we all know how much gnashing of teeth there has been out of envy or disbelief when we reported that metal gear solid 4: guns of the patriots' street date has been broken in several locations around the world. if that kind of news drives you nuts, prepare to go wild with this one.
neogaf member randam_hajile posted the image reproduced above and said he got his 80gb playstation 3 bundled with metal gear slid 4 a week early from wal-mart. he was shady on details, so feel free to theorize how he got it from his post quoted below:
so i walked in to wal-mart tonight to get a father's day card with my fiance', and walked out with this! i pre-ordered the limited edition mgs4 at gamestop, so i don't know if i'm even gonna open this copy of the game, but at least now i have the 80 gig ps3 i've been waiting for, and a week early at that! my college graduation ceremony is tomorrow morning. happy graduation to me!
there you have it, folks. more people claiming to have picked up mgs4 and related items before launch.

seo tools to help you make money online
there are tons of tools out there that can help you optimize your website and maximize your profits. john says that there are really only two critical components to having a successful website (or blog). first, you need to generate traffic. second, you need to monetize that traffic. over the course of this review, we’ll have a look at three tools that address both of these core areas.
spying on the compeion
have you ever had a burning suspicion that the person who runs one website is also the same person that runs something else? if the sites are hosted on different servers and have different whois information, site ownership can be pretty well masked from the public. even so, most webmasters who specialize in mfa (made for adsense) sites still use the same google adsense account across their entire portfolio. and adsspy can do that cross-referencing for you.

adsspy.com current tracks over 400,000 google adsense ains, as well as numerous accounts from adbrite, chitika, ypn, kontera, and more. in effect, you can spy on the compeion and see what other projects they may have running in the wings. for example, by throwing www.johnchow.com into the search field, i am able to discover that he uses the same adsense account on thetechzone.com and laptopgamers.com. most of you know about ttz, but did you know about laptop gamers?
the basic report does not provide all of the information. instead, it will only show how many ains (and ains) are ociated with a particular publisher id. to gain access to the full report, you’ll need to a pay. you can either order based on the number of reports you need or you can get unlimited access for a certain number of days. prices range from $4.95 for a single report to $199.95 for 180 days of premium access.
a reverse index of google
there are probably certain keywords that you are trying to target on your blog. for example, john has used a few initiatives to get rank for “make money online” and “root of all evil”. these strategies are for when you already know which keywords you want to target. with seodigger, “you can find out for which keywords your site ranks high enough to be in google top 20.”

in many ways, this is google in reverse. when regular search engines, you pump type in the search term and it finds websites for you. with seodigger, you enter a website and shows which keywords are ranking the best for it. this valuable seo tool also displays the keyword popularity as calculated by wordtracker and overture. all data can be exported via csv.
aside from the entertaint value — you’d be surprised by some of the search terms for which your site ranks in google — there are plenty of seo benefits to a tool like seodigger. it probably makes more sense to improve your ranking on terms that you already reach the first page of google than trying to start from scratch with new keywords altogether.
the free service lets you look up the rankings for a single page and the number of queries is limited to just five per hour. by registering with seodigger, you can check for results across an entire ain, seeing if any internal pages are ranking well with google. upgrading to a premium account provides even further benefits.
shaking the room for ie and firefox browsers

as if seodigger and adsspy weren’t enough, the same developers have up with seoquake as well. this is a toolbar and series of plug-ins for both firefox and internet explorer users. when activated, you can instantly see the google pagerank, number of indexed pages, incoming links, and so on of any given page. one of the more interesting seo plug-ins included lets you sort google search results according to different parameters. you can list them based on pagerank, for example, instead of using google’s default algorithm.
comning seoquake with seodigger with adsspy, you should be well-equipped for the world of making money online. now if only the rest of us could figure out the john chow effect, we’d be set!

gigabyte m528 atom-based mid gets $750 price and release timeframe
filed under: handhelds
just when we though tegatech's gigabyte m528 mid would run a scary $1131, gigabyte has out and said that the unit will run a somewhat more palatable $750. that includes the hardware only, so the sim and 3g data plans will be completely up to you. but, keep in mind this unit packs an 800mhz low processor, gps, and 8gb ssd. as for when you can grab one, it's looking like late july in taiwan. hit the read link if you're still with us and want to pre-order this naughty little mid.[thanks, kc]

ec clears nokia's trolltech buy; litany of alternatives out there
the european commission has nodded through nokia's (nyse: nok) acquisition of oslo-based embedded software firm trolltech, first agreed in january. the ec's anrust authorities found that the companies "are vertically related, as trolltech's products can be used in the developt of software for mole handsets". but the merger pes because "trolltech's products have a limited market presence and that nokia's compeors would have several credible alternatives to trolltech's products, if, after the transaction nokia were to decide to no longer supply trolltech's products to rival handset manufacturers".
trolltech's linux-based software allows developers to create apps for mole phones that run across microsoft (nsdq: msft) windows, apple (nsdq: aapl) macintosh os x and the linux or unix os. the ec cited alternatives included purple labs, mizi research, access linux platform, azingo mole, the gnome mole platform and the limo platform, a platform released by the limo foundation, a global consortium of mole network operators and handset manufacturers, including motorola (nyse: mot), nec, ntt docomo (nyse: dcm), panasonic, samsung and vodafone.
