i caught this wonderful doentary on pbs yesterday on the life and times of pete seeger.

blacklisted, banned from tv, pete was feared by the powers that be - because he was tuned into the idea that people can change things.

pete fought for civil rights, against the vietnam war, to help clean up the hudson river and basically any cause that needed him. pete was an inspiration to many generations - and oh by the way - also gave rth to the folk music movet.

so no wonder he was banned from television for 17 years.

no wonder he was branded a red.

pete came to the summer camp i was raised at in michigan several times and i must have seen him perform like 30 times.

i have this vivid memory of sitting on the gr, singing along with him and seeing my parents and all their friends - singing along. pete put the power of song into me - and it’s never going away.

he’s a living legend and i highly recomd that folks try and catch him at his annual carnegie hall performances.

this doentary rocks.

there’s a line from ll clinton at the end of this 2.5 hour film.  clinton says “pete isn’t necessarily about the history of music, rather he showed that you can use music to change history.“  there’s no better way of descring pete seeger.
