been having fun interacting with all these people i haven’t pinged in over a year.  and what a year it’s been!: onone.com, itimes.com, bellvideostore.ca, gtchannel.com, socialworld.com, 2your2retire.net, portokalada.com - great to catch up with so many.  of course most of them won’t go into plurk - but that’s ok.  they were guinea pigs in my experit.

turns out grouply has more networks than ning. this isn’t surprising given that grouply is built to work with yahoo groups.  this says many things:

    - just how badly yahoo dropped the ball when it s to y! groups

- that the issue of how many networks - really isn’t relevant

-  as the ceo of grouply points out in the comts, they’re building on existing networks, while ning is creating new ones.

-  this game ain’t over with - yet.

man!  its as if something happened to the yahoo sales force and they finally figured out they have to hussle to keep their jobs. i wonder what happened that caused this? :-)  all of a sudden they’re cutting deals, leveraging their 150m users.  you’d think they were under siege or that their boss has been told to step down.  hmmmmm  yah think?

now that we have the yahoo address book apis we can add that to our list of systems we can support. i just hope they’re two-way.

turns out the fbopen facebook source code requires that anyone who uses the code, must also open source their code.  it’s called the cpal license.  stay away is my advice.

last week's blu-ray releases were a hodgepodge of movies for almost everyone in the family to watch and enjoy. this week however, we'll be seeing a lot of action-packed movies and specials from no other than the academy award-winning actor nicolas cage and the wrestlemania event, some dies in the form of movies and a musical, eight doentaries bundled in four separate releases, an animated movie, and an action-thriller where you'll see natalie portman without her gorgeous locks.

let's take a look first at the slew of nicolas cage flicks lined up for this week's blu-ray releases. we have national treasure and national treasure: book of secrets from walt disney pictures where cage plays benjamin franklin gates. in the first film, gates is trying to find a trove of artifacts and gold, but unfortunately, he needs to take a close peek at the declaration of independence doent itself before finding clues to what he and his ancestors before him have been searching for.

  

in the sequel, book of secrets, ben gates sets out to clear the name of his great-great grandfather thomas gates who had been implicated in the murder of president abraham lincoln. his only clue lies in the missing page in a diary which his grandfather translated for john wilkes booth and another unknown man. if these two movies from cage aren't enough though, then be aware that his 2007 movie next and the 1997 film face/off with john travolta are also coming out on blu-ray.

if you're after films to get you into a positive mood, then the following batch is a must-have. will ferrell and jon heder partner up (in more senses than one) in the 2007 dy blades of glory from dreamworks. former rivals in the wintersport games 's singles skaters category, they now have to team up and join the ice dancing or pair skating category to take advantage of a loophole in the wintersport games' regulations. another unconventional cheer-me-upper is company: a musical dy, a musical which tackles love and committ in manhattan as perceived by a 35-year old bachelor.

adam sandler and jack nicholson team up in the 2003 film anger managet from columa pictures and revolution ios. in the film, sandler is forced to undergo anger managet instead of going to jail after a misunderstanding with a flight's air marshal. a few therapy sessions, some brawls, and other misunderstandings happen along his path to graduating from anger managet.

dreamworks animation's bee movie on the other hand, also falls under the dy category for this writer, because, in all honesty, can any movie featuring jerry seinfeld's voice not be funny? in this animated film, we follow the story of a bee named barry b. benson who finds out how important his and the other bees' job of pollinating flowers are to the the world.

questar is also releasing eight doentaries bundled in twos - nature: the desert lions bundled with life in death valley, nature: in the valley of the wolf clumped with christmas in yellowstone, nature: shark mountain released with supersize crocs, and nature: under antarctic ice grouped with encountering sea monsters.

other great flicks to see a blu-ray release include the 2006 action-thriller v for vendetta which stars natalie portman, stephen rea, and hugo weaving; the 1986 clic science fiction short circuit starring ally sheedy, austin pendleton, and prototype robot johnny 5; and, wwe: wrestlemania 24 which showcases famous wrestlers undertaker, john cena, triple h, edge, and randy orton, and skilled boxer floyed mayweather jr.

a meaty release for blu-ray home entertaint system owners indeed. you can check out the list below of these great blu-ray releases for may 20, 2008:

currently the iphone is only (officially) available in the us, germany, france, britain, austria and ireland. we know that japan and canada are next up, with rumors of other countries coming all the time. but with the new iphone 2, as we’re calling it, the distribution could be truly global.

this is good for two reasons. one, it helps apple really take on other cellphone makers and set more of the trends that the original iphone already has. and two, it means a higher volume of individual units, which would keep prices down for everyone.

that’s amtious for anyone, but if there’s one adjective that fits jobs and his apple crew, that’s it.

the way it works, is by allowing users to generate “trends” according to what they think will catch on. some trends are “cewebrities” (pictured below), “batman: the dark knight,” and “tap water.” the user who makes the trend writes a “pitch” - the reason they think it will catch on. then the edopter system scans the web to measure current internet “buzz.” users can join a trend, and give their pitch, upload pos and videos related to the trend, and discuss the trend with the other users in that trend. the more discussion and content you add, the more likely more people will join, thus increasing the value of the trend.

there is a point system that measures the trends based on the users involved, the internet buzz, and the time it’s been a trend. the points go up with each user, and down as time goes by. to join a trend, a user has to buy in with some of their points (each user starts with 500). the purchase price for a trend is its current worth, so users are encouraged to get in on trends early.

 

the edopter “showcase” is where users can trade in points for exclusive opportunities and other prizes. the showcase is currently under construction, with plans to open it up sometime in the near future.

edopter recently launched their facebook application so users can connect with friends already using the service and invite others. through the application users can track other users’ favorite and recent trends, and or use the vs. feature to compare common trends and statistics.

the potential for a solid business model here is huge. if it were to take off (maybe its users and algorithm could predict if it will or not), they would have access to a very hard to reach demographic - early adopters. the trendsetters who are always on the lookout for the next new thing. there’s opportunities to sell sponsored trends, and promotions where users could earn more points. they could draw some inspiration from popular virtual currency facebook applications like friends for sale. for example, using points as rewards for users that invite their friends, and be more involved in the site.

there are several sites with with similar concepts, but they mainly stay within one vertical. mediapredict is a site where you buy shares in movies, music and books and predict milestones for each item. another similar application is pickspop, where users can predict and bet on celebrity gossip and pop culture. there’s also coolspotters, a site where users can “spot” cool clothes on celebrities and share with the community to get reviews and similar trends. what these sites lack in comparison to edopter, is the proprietary algorithm that edopter uses to predict the trends’ staying power. edopter is also lacking a specific vertical, enabling users to predict and measure any trend they want.

the hx500 can go for as much as $906 while the hx250 will post a $715 tag.
