facebook is starting to pursue social networks that have copied their design or features by suing german site ivz. the financial times has reported that facebook filed a suit in the california supreme court against the german company for what it claims is an infringet of facebook’s “look, feel, features and services”.

ivz claims to have 10 million active members, and is the largest social network in the german-speaking world, covering germany, belgium, austria and switzerland. the network is actually comprised of three different sites, each one a separate social network aimed at different segts of the market. ivz.net is the clic site for college-aged ents, schuelervz.net is for high school ents and meinvz.net is for older s (these three networks were very hard to decipher in german when i attempted to sign up).

facebook does seem to have a claim here, as the german site looks like nothing more than facebook in red and translated in german. everything from the first public page to the sign-up page and the profile pages look eerily similar to the us-based social network. ivz was acquired earlier this year by the german media group georg von holtzbrinck, with an acquisition price in the ?100m range. they always say you should sue where the money is, and facebook has certainly found a pile of it by targeting verlagsgruppe georg von holtzbrinck.

i?m glad we are giving our killer consumer products away ? it?s a great move for the company and a great move for our customers! a few months ago i was on vacation in the mountains outside of denver relaxing in the tub with some other folks from the area. we started talking about what we do; all these folks were intelligent and technology savvy. however, none of them knew about rss ? i explained what it was and they all agreed it sounded great and useful. well, now that our clients our free i hope i don?t need to do any more explaining!

on top of spreading the love about rss, this move will certainly help my friends and co-workers in the enterprise side of the house sell more software. as folks learn about rss and the aewsoess of nges, their job of selling bes that much easier! in addition to helping enterprise sales, we will also be focusing the clients on delivering more relevant content - you’ll be hearing much more about that in the following weeks and months.

need to have your facebook friends' status updates at all times? you can import your status update feed into your bloglines account. here's how you can get your status updates in bloglines. go to your home page. look for your "status updates" section on the right side of the page near your po. click on "see all" and go to your status updates page. on the right side of the page, you'll see a blue rss icon under the header "scribe."

flickr
get a po feed from a friend, family member or other flickr-ino. enter the user name in the flickr search. look at the bottom of the user's profile page. look way to the bottom and you'll find an rss icon. scribe to it like any other feed.

upcoming.org
see what events your friends aretracking. be sure to sign-in to upcoming.org. look for the area on your home page with the le, "my friends' events." (be sure to have added friends before-hand.) click on the link "my friends' events." look for the rss scribe button in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
