the system, which will be presented at sid 2008, is compatible with the current wave of 3d tvs from samsung and mitsushi. if you want to see if your tv is 3d-capable, check out the list below from 3dmovielist.com.

jvc unveil?s the hd video duo
section: video, dvd players/dvrs, hdtv, portable video
sometimes, we just can?t let go ? original eight track records, vintage clothes, hard-to-find comic books, first edition volumes? even with the digital age, some people still prefer to rock on with their ogs.
if you (or your father) are like this, jvc hears you. the company recently announced that it has released two new video recorders capable of handling vhs, dvd, and even hdd recording.
intuitively, the dr-hx500 has a 500gb hard drive while the dr-hx250 has half that capacity (250gb). that?s where the difference ends. both devices boast of a built-in og/digital tv tuner, an hdmi socket, a vhs player, and a dvd burner/player. both are capable of handling dts and dolby digital formats.
parents can now relive their old clics while their children indulge in the latest hollywood releases. recorded clips from tv, such as american idol episodes, can either be stored on the hard drive or burned on dvd’s.
the hx500 can go for as much as $906 while the hx250 will post a $715 tag.

sony's rolly dances its way into u.s. shelves
the quirky sony rolly finally rolls its way into u.s. shelves, happily rolling and spinning into the hearts of american consumers. for those who are not yet acquainted with the dancing mp3 player, it's an egg-shaped gadget that not only plays music with its well-placed 180-degree stereo speakers, but also rolls around and dances in tune to the music.the rolly also flashes 700 hues of light while it "sings" and dances, which makes it an awesome dance partner in the dance floor (you'll have to be careful not to trip and fall over it, though). if you want the little audiovisual egg to dance a certain way, you can even use its accompanying rolly choreographer software to customize the rolly's sweet moves for your favorite music.
preloaded with three tunes - also sprach zarathustra, avril lavigne's girlfriend, and earth wind and fire's boogie wonderland - the sony rolly sells for us 400 in the sony style stores, more or less the same price as its japanese counterpart.

samsung sgh f400 pos and review // live loud campaign

samsung’s live loud campaign has struck their packaging and made it look kick . currently, samsung mole have a few phones launched for their live loud campaign and this includes a phone we recently got to view - the samsung sgh f400. we were able to get one up close and review it for a couple of days. our verdict: wow.
it is ironic to say that one of the best features of the f400 is the fact that it borrows the nokia s60 platform as its operating system. this seems to be the trend now with phone manufacturers licensing compeor os’es as a way to transition users into their brand. nokia is g in asia. so is samsung. so a stylish samsung phone that runs an ease-of-use nokia s60? cool beans. not a lot of manufacturers have licensed s60 - i can only name sies with the sx1 many many years ago and it ed. well guess what, the f400 integrates s60 pretty well sans the nseries standard functions such as wifi connectivity.

what sets the f400 apart as well is its rubberized scroll wheel which s out when the top half of the phone slides down (sliding up the sgh f400 reveals the keypad). this brings up a music scroll u that’s so e, it makes me wonder why the ipod didn’t figure this half circle layout before. the rubber really helps the tactile feedback and helps me choose songs. pressing down on the rubber pad actually makes a selection. let’s go to audio: the bang and olufsen speakers are truly amazing. they’re loud and crisp.
one gripe i have about the phone is the proprietary headphone connector. music phones, by standard usually have a 3.5mm jack so that you can attach any sort of earphone brand available. samsung makes use of a proprietary connector similar to the one it uses for the charger.
overall, the sgh f400 is a great music phone. the camera is good. the audio and b&o speakers are fantastic. it doesn’t have wifi but it does have 3g. the fact that it makes use of a nokia os allows those people familiar with the finnish architecture want to switch to something as stylish as a samsung with almost zero learning curve.

pros
good integration of nokia s60 platform
decent camera
ultra loud audio
mind ing alternative selection interface with the “rubberized wheel”
cons
proprietary headphone connector

vc deals in charts (q2 2008)?exits? we don?t need no stinkin? exits?
second quarter data is out on venture deals from the national venture capital ociation and pricewaterhousecoopers. despite the ipo market drying up completely, the what-me-worry crowd on sand hill road keep pumping money into venture deals at a steady pace. venture capitalists invested $7.4 llion last quarter in 990 deals, compared to $7.5 llion in 997 deals during the first quarter (a number that looks like it was revised upwards from the $7.1 llion the same group originally reported last april). the average deal size last quarter was $7.5 million. (click on the charts for gger images).
the amount of money going into first-time financings is declining, with only 22 percent of vc money going to early stage deals. late-stage and expansion deals are attracting more capital, a trend we saw last quarter as well. these deals are generally deemed more safe than first-time deals since these companies are further along and some of the early risks have been taken off the table.
software is still the ggest sector attracting vc funds ($1.3 llion), followed by otech ($1.1 llion), but both those sectors are seeing a slowdown in investts (down 19 percent and 14 percent year-over-year, respectively). the only sectors that saw increases was energy (up 102 percent year-over-year to $1.2 llion) and media (up 23 percent to $586 million).
there were a couple of bright spots in the report. drilling down into internet-specific and clean tech deals, vc optimism seems to be holding for now. they invested $1.5 llion in internet deals, up 14 percent from last quarter. clean tech financings were pretty much flat at $884 million.
if the ipo and m&a drought continue, it should have a deeper impact on current funding levels. but there is usually a lag period between the former going down and vcs waking up to the fact that the environt has changed (the two have been linked historically, despite current investts having a five-to-seven year horizon).
